Cozy Winter Nights: 6 Ways to Keep Your Pet Warm Indoors
Share
When the temperature drops, pets feel it too, especially small dogs, short-haired breeds, seniors, and cats who love a warm spot. These six ideas help your companion stay cozy.
1. Move the bed away from drafts. Floors near doors and windows are the coldest places in a home. Place the bed in a sheltered corner instead.
2. Add a soft blanket. A fleece blanket gives your pet something to burrow into and traps warmth. Choose one that is machine washable.
3. Raise the bed off the floor. Even a thin layer between the bed and a cold floor makes a difference.
4. Dress small or short-haired dogs for walks and cold mornings. A well-fitting pet pyjama or coat adds warmth. Check that it does not restrict movement.
5. Let them nap in sunny spots. Many pets follow the sun around the house. A blanket on a sunny sofa corner is a favorite.
6. Keep the routine. Shorter walks and indoor play, such as a sniffing mat, keep pets active when it is too cold to stay out long.
A safety note: Never leave pets too close to heaters or fireplaces, and check that anything your pet chews cannot be swallowed. If your pet seems unusually cold or lethargic, contact your vet.
